Our beloved standard poodles are companions from birth and raised as members of our family inside our home in Houston, Texas. The breeding dogs are health tested and matched by pedigree and type to produce the result we are looking for in our over-all, long term breeding program. Every sire is chosen to enhance, improve, and preserve the Harwood line.
Each puppy in the Harwood line is evaluated for show and only the best will be chosen to compete. Puppies who will not be shown are sold with limited registration. A Show-level puppy will be registered at the time of going to its new home with the name of the buyer's choice (show contracts may have individualized terms).
We are with our puppies from the day they are born until the day they move to their new home. When their eyes are open and they are walking, we prop open a doggie door and encourage them to go outside. After a week, we close the door and allow them to push it open on their own. This lets them follow their instincts to potty outside of their sleeping/eating area - a big help for new owners and potty training later.
When our puppies leave us at 8-9 weeks old, they are well socialized and have been introduced to squeaky toys, grooming and clippers, solid foods, and using a doggie door. They will have had their tails docked, dewclaws removed, and all appropriate immunizations. The puppies will have been de-wormed.
All Harwood puppies will be microchipped before going to their new homes.
Know that we will interview potential puppy buyers to determine whether or not the dog, the owners and the home will be a good match for our standard poodle puppies. We care about the matching of a dog to an owner because a good match is vital to everyone's happiness.
We are available to our puppy owners during the life of their dog, for advice, evaluation, and whatever assistance it is in our power to provide - sometimes even puppy-sitting!
